Summary
Part of a series of programs that presents and preserves the unique heritage of the Ozarks. In this segment, Dr. Jim Baker interviews Father Mark Scott, a Trappist monk, about the purpose and history of Assumption Abbey in the Missouri Ozarks near Ava, established in 1950. At the monastery, a group of monks practice the centuries-old traditions of contemplation and study, private prayer and common worship, and living by the work of their own hands. They also extend hospitality to visitors who come to spend time away from their normal schedules or to seek counseling on spiritual matters. Assumption Abbey is also known for its bakery and the fruit cakes the monks produce
