Summary
Current theories regarding Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) have implicated the role of a deficient working memory system. This study investigated the relationship between ADHD symptomology as measured by the Brown ADD Scales and the Working Memory Index Scores of the WAIS-III and WMS-III for 70 adults referred for psychological assessment by the Missouri Division of Vocational Rehabilitation. Results indicated that performance on the working memory scales and level of ADHD symptomology were not significantly correlated. Analysis of the data for the effects of age, gender, medicated versus non-medicated status, and co-morbid learning disabilities also showed no significant mean differences. Implications of this finding for ADHD theory and psychological measurement are discussed
