This journalism master's project includes a professional work component and a research component. The professional work component details the author's experiences working as a design intern at ALIVE Magazine, a monthly urban lifestyle, culture, and fashion magazine in Saint Louis, Missouri. Includes field notes and examples of work. In the research component the author examines the issue of how city, regional and consumer magazines create and implement iPad apps in their digital magazine production. After interviewing five magazine editors/publishers and analyzing their responses, the author concludes that "... the iPad confirms that magazines are not going away. The platform allows entire magazine staffs to be more creative and collaborative with their content, if they choose to do so .... What continues to be discussed is how to make these ventures profitable for companies yet still please readers." (p. 89) Includes a literature review and interview transcripts
