 Summary
"In presenting the material in this book, [the author has] taken care to minimize the background information expected from the reader, whether graduate student or practicing engineer. The reader will encounter no difficulty in mastering the subject matter if he is familiar with the elementary principles of the Laplace and Fourier transforms, linear system theory, complex variables through contour integration, and matrix algebra. Some basic knowledge in difference equations, control theory, and statistics would be helpful but is not required. It has been [the author's] experience that the variations in background, even of students recently graduated in the same engineering discipline, tend to be so extreme that the assumption of a more advanced background would severely restrict the book's usefulness."Preface
