Summary
A novel optical biosensor technique is being investigated for early detection of myocardial infarction utilizing the distance-dependent chemical transduction method of fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET). The research presented consists of three investigations, each of which contributes to the overall design of the proposed biosensor. Results showed that the addition of specific antigen reduced D/A ratio in both of the sol-gel and direct immobilization procedures. In addition, results of the biocompatibility study showed the L929 fibroblasts cells preferentially adhered to the ridges of the micropatterned PDMS substrates, regardless of the width dimension.
