- Summary
- This journalism master's project includes a professional work component and a research analysis component. The professional work component details the author's experiences producing two multimedia stories regarding human trafficking. "The first multimedia story, "Five Days: A Story of Human Trafficking," is the story of Margaret [a survivor of human trafficking]. ... The second story, "Five Voices: The Threat is Always There" investigates deeper into the issue through a series of interviews with five people who are working to combat and raise awareness on human trafficking that happens in our communities. Focusing mostly on the occurrence in the Midwest region, [the author's] goal was to address the immediacy of human trafficking through visual storytelling that is both compelling and informative to viewers." (p. 7) Includes field notes, interview transcripts and examples of work. In the research analysis component entitled "Reception analysis of the Kansas City Star's news frame : using images and video clips from "A new slavery: human trafficking in America" the author examines "how two knowledgeable viewers and two average viewers perceived the visual storytelling elements in the Kansas City Star's project, 'A New Slavery: Human Trafficking in America,'" and the effect photographic/visual elements have in framing human trafficking news stories. Includes a literature review and interview transcripts
