- This journalism master's project includes a professional work component and a research component. The professional work component details the author's experiences working as an intern at Gannett Rochester Newspapers on the civic journalism team. Includes field notes and examples of work, opinion polls and story budgets. A full series of articles on teen experiences with and views on violence are reprinted. In the research (or analysis) component the author examines the emerging techniques in civic journalism, where media actively pursue civic topics and solicit public participation. Includes a literature review and a case study of a cooperative civic journalism project
