Summary
This journalism master's project includes a professional work component and a research component. The professional work component details the author's experiences working as a reporter for the Washington Post . Includes field notes and examples of work. In the research component the author examines neighborhood reporting in metropolitan daily newspapers. The author does this by interviewing reporters who cover neighborhoods. "These reporters have perfected their own strategies for finding out what's important in communities and for sifting neighborhoods for good stories. They also have learned the special pitfalls faced by those who write about neighborhoods, a beat which, for better and worse, is largely devoid of news releases and press conferences." (p. 99) Includes a literature review and interview transcripts
