- This journalism master's project includes a professional work component and a research component. The professional work component details the author's experiences working for the Star Tribune in Minneapolis, Minnesota, mostly involved with investigative reporting. ... Includes field notes and examples of work. In the research component entitled "Secrecy on campus: opening up public scrutiny, nationwide and in Minnesota," the author concludes: "despite all the gains for the media in recent years, in some cases there is still a long way to go. The clash between the University of Minnesota and the Star Tribune is a disturbing example of this. The University's practical and legal obstacles have slowed the Star Tribune, but have not stopped it. Although it is not known how the courts will respond to the Tribune's suit, it is clear that it will be an important battle for First Amendment advocates." (research paper, p. 20)
