Summary
Part of a series of programs that presents and preserves the unique heritage of the Ozarks. In this segment, Jim Baker interviews Brooks Blevins, Director of Regional Studies at Lyon College in Batesville, Ark. and author of the book, Hill folks : a history of Arkansas Ozarkers and their image. The book, a historical in-depth history of the Ozarks, traces the region's history from the early 19th century through the end of the 20th century. It examines a wide range of Ozarks social life including the development of agriculture, the rise and fall of extractive industries, the settlement of the countryside, decline of rural communities, migration, and the growth of tourism in the region. In this interview, Dr. Blevins discusses the development and perpetuation of the Ozarks image versus the reality behind that image
