  • Alex Plumtree, owner of London's Plumtree Press, finds himself with a deadly puzzle on his hands when the anonymous author of a promised novel about the smuggling of British children to America during World War II disappears, and a leading critic who reviewed the book as a nonfiction expose is murdered
  • In London, publisher Alex Plumtree, breaks open a bottle of champagne when a novel hits the bestseller list. He has been saved from bankruptcy and the sequel--about kidnaped World War II orphans--will make him rich. Just then, however, the novel's author disappears and as Plumtree investigates, he learns the sequel is more fact than fiction and that some people will kill to keep it secret
