- This journalism master's project includes a professional work component and an analysis component. The professional work component details the author's experiences working at Spot.Us, a social network for journalism. "A community-funded nonprofit news platform, Spot.Us seeks to engage the public with the overall news process. Reporters pitch stories that Spot.Us community members can fund with their own money or by spending Spot.Us credits earned through taking sponsored surveys or watching sponsored advertisements." (p. 3) Includes field notes and examples of work. In the analysis component the author examines "how people use social media to interact with and share news content online. [The author is] most interested in how people use magazines and newspapers to present themselves online or to gain higher social status within their networks. What motivates people to post links to or 'like' certain magazine and news articles on social networking sites such as Facebook? What types of articles do they link to? Do people ever link to certain publications to get attention, to look smarter, etc.? Which magazines and news organizations carry the most cultural capital?" (p. 128) Includes a literature review interview transcripts
