- This journalism master's project includes a professional work component and a research component. The professional work component details the author's experiences working at Vox Magazine as the deputy editor. The duties included "helping slate features and choosing covers for the magazine, approving story ideas, doing galley edits and being lead editor on feature articles. In addition ... [the author] produce[d] one to two in-depth, long pieces ... " (page 117) Includes field notes and examples of work. The research component "is intended to analyze how magazines use tablets specifically to deliver long-form journalism. ... [The author] will be looking at how long-form journalism is planned with tablet devices in mind and what emphasis publications put on it. This will show whether news organizations can capture audience attention with long-form journalism and expand readership. This study will be done with in-depth interviews with editors in charge of tablet content at the ASME Digital Ellie award-winning publications from 2010 and 2011. The focus of the interviews will specifically involve the subjects' decisions regarding tablet-specific content and what their attitudes are regarding long-form journalism on tablets. The main goal is to determine how tablet use affects the publications' focus in long-form stories." (page 123) Includes a literature review and interview transcripts
